Logging in for the first time

The welcome email you received gave you a link to your 5th Kind system. When you follow this link for the first time it asks for you to input the password you would like to use.  NOTE: This must be done from a desktop Mac or PC, not from a mobile device.

After confirming your new password you will see the Home Page.

The Home Page is the main landing page when you log in.  Here you will see the Left Nav on the left and the quick search in the middle.

The Left Nav is where you go to navigate to the different areas of the system. Depending on your level of permissions, you may see some or all of these options.




In the "Assets" section you will find the "New Search" button, which allows you to see all assets that you are allowed to view; "Package Inbox," which lets you see any packages of assets that someone has shared with you; "My Uploads" and "My Downloads," which let you see and manage any uploads to or downloads from the system that you have initiated; and also the "Users" button, which lets you see who else is in the system.


If you are set as an Asset Manager, you will see the "Admin" section as well.  These allow you to manage the various advanced features of the system.  For information on these and other features, see the User Manual.


Quick Search


The Middle Quick Search is where you will see links to the various departments and associations in the system to quickly just to a search for that department or association.  



Doing a Search


There are several ways to find an asset in the system.  From the home page you can use the quick search to look at a single departments assets and do a text based search as well. In the left nav, under Assets is the “New Search” This will take you to the “Advanced Search Page” Where you can build your search with the top metadata options.

Choose your search options and then select search.  All of the assets that match your search criteria will appear.

Also in the Left Nav you can select the “Browse Tab”.  The Browse search lets you search using a folder selector UI.  Simple browse the folders to bring up the assets you are looking for.

Once you have found the asset or asset group you are looking for you can go to the view mode. If it is a single asset you can select the thumbnail of the asset you would like to see, or if it is the asset group you would like to see select the virtual folder display in the action bar, or select the last thumbnail section that displays the total number of assets in the group.

When you click on any one asset, you will see it in the Single Asset Viewer.  From here you can comment on or annotate the asset.

Writing a comment

To start a discussion about an asset or asset group, select the comment icon on the asset from the Single Asset Viewer. This will bring up the comment window.

You use this much like an email: add in users in the system to send the comment to, then put a title in the "Subject" line, then add the text of your comment.  If you'd like only the listed people to be able to view the comment, check the "Make Private" box.  If you'd like to get an email when someone views the comment, check the "Notify on Review" box.


Both video and images have annotation options. To annotate on a video or image open the annotation tools and use the pen, arrow, or text tool to draw on the image or frame you want. If you wish to also add an audio note select the microphone icon and record your message you would like to include.  You can then save your drawing or share it with others.  For more information on this and other features, see the User Manual.

First, click the "Annotation" icon in the lower left of the Single Asset Viewer.

And then start annotating with the various features.

Printing an asset

To physically print an asset, click on the "Options" button in the upper right of the Single Asset Viewer.

You will get a dropdown menu. Depending on the access permissions your account has been set for, you may see some or all of these options. If you are permitted, one of these options will be "Print Media."

Click on "Print Media" and you will be able to select a printer so that you may have a paper copy of the asset.

Uploading an asset

To upload files into the system select the green "Upload" button in upper right of the screen.

This will open the upload tool. Select the files you wish to upload and select upload.

The Upload progress bar will load in the left nav and will show you the progress of your current upload.



A package is a little like a folder on your desktop: you can put any number of assets into it and then share it with whomever you wish within the system.  You can see a list of packages that you have made, or that have been shared with you, by clicking on "Package Inbox" in the Left Nav.

Making a new package

To make a new package select the package dropdown in the upper left.

Click the green button called "Create New Package."

Then choose a name for your new package.

Adding Assets to your Package

You can add as many assets as you would like to your package. You can add a single asset, an asset group, or multiple assets and asset groups to your package.

To add a single asset to the package you can hover over a single thumbnail and select the “add to package” icon.

If want to add an entire Asset Group to your package, click on "Options" in the upper right of the Asset Group.

This will open up a dropdown menu.

Click on "Add To Package," and the entire asset group will be inserted into your active package.

Sharing your package

To share your package with other users in the system select the Share button in the top left. This will expand the share options.

Adding users to your Share

You will see a recipient’s window at the top to select the users you wish to add. Type their names in the address field and select them or click the address book icon to open the address book and select the users from there.


Add your Comment

Type the comment you would like to share with the recipients in the comment window. This will be the body of the email message that is sent out and will be the first comment in the package thread for others to reply to.


Hit Send

An email will be sent to each recipient you added in the recipients windows that will have a link to take them directly to the package.  If you chose to be notified on review you will get an email once they view the package.
